About Us

Aransas County Area Go Texan (ACAGT), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (EIN 45-3436337), is a local (Aransas County) organization that promotes scholarships and grants for the youth and students of Aransas County. ACAGT also promotes Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo through participation in the World Championship BBQ Cook-Off (WCBBQ), and other Area Go Texan events. Through our participation in HLSR, at least one (1) $20,000 scholarship is awarded to an Aransas County student, we can receive (2) $20,000 scholarships. Additional local scholarships are awarded through the ACAGT Committee through funds raised locally. The ACAGT’s goal is to increase the amount of local scholarships and youth sponsorships awarded each year. To date, Aransas County students have been awarded over $290,000 in scholarships since Aransas County Area Go Texan was formed in 2011. Aransas County Area Go Texan experiences growth each year. Along with increasing community awareness of ACAGT’s purpose, we also continue to increase the amount of scholarship dollars awarded to local youth. All funds raised from sponsorships and fundraising events are awarded to youth in the community in the form of local scholarships, and ACAGT Grants. In 2020, we participated in the WCBBQ Cook-Off for the Fifth (5th) year and placed 7th as an Area Go Texan team and 22nd overall. The WCBBQ is one of our largest fundraising events and friendly competition for bragging rights among the 68 Area Go Texan counties in Texas. Currently, ACAGT is seeking sponsors for the 2022 WCBBQ and local scholarship fund. Your sponsorship, whether monetary or in-kind, will be beneficial in creating dollars available for Aransas County youth. Although 2020 and 2021 will be years to remember due to COVID-19, ACAGT was still able to raise funds to award local scholarships to ACISD Seniors despite limitations in fundraising. HLSR did not host WCBBQ in 2021, so we are excited to be back for 2022 and hope your continued support of ACAGT will propel us to the top! We have set a goal to award the largest amount of scholarships we have given to Aransas County youth this year. WCBBQ, will be held at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX on February 24-26, 2022. Our participation and promotion of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo ensures at least one Aransas County graduating senior will be eligible for a $20,000 Area Go Texan Scholarship awarded by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Hannah Saegert was awarded a $20,000 scholarship in 2020 and Macy Hoang was awarded a $20,000 scholarship in 2021. Since 2011, Aransas County Graduating Seniors have received over $280,000 through HLSR Area Go Texan Scholarships. An additional $10,000 in scholarships have been awarded through ACAGT. Your sponsorship of ACAGT is essential to our success of supporting our local youth. Several sponsorship levels are available. Each level of sponsorship has benefits, including social media and banner recognition, ACAGT swag, and WCBBQ entry and tent privileges.
